Computer help Please

Post by johnriley1uk »

Hers's the tale so far. Windows xp. SP2.

I installed Office 97. Didn't like the thing so ininstalled, unfortunately removing shared components in error. Then Outlook Express wouldn't open.

Re-installed Office 97. Outlook Express runs but is not installed properly and fails to be recognised as the default e-mail program. But it does work manually.

Have now taken off office 97 again, this time leaving shared components (which are no doubt out of date files). OE still works but not fully.

Have installed IE7. No problem. But still OE in the same fix.

2 questions for you computer experts.

1) Can I repair OE?
2) Is there another e-mail program that works in a similar way that I can download to replace it?

Apparently there is a similar program to OE called Thunderbird. Ooh, found it: Linky McLink. Looks to be made by the same people as Firefox, so should be all above board, and all open-sourced. Thank our housemate Aled for that one.

Sorry to hear that you have a problem with OE. Thunderbird is supposed to work very well. You should also consider running Neo Office / Open Office which I think has an email package too. Neo Office is the better of the two programs.

Er...isn't NeoOffice a port of OpenOffice to the Mac, and hence somewhat out of reach for us PC users?
