There was a point made in the comments there: what about the risk of the laser damaging people's eyes? Asides from that, it looks pretty cool. There's a certain something about old vinyl and gramophones...

You can guarantee someone will do something stupid to almost blind themselves, such as wiring the laser to turn on without a cd in it. Also, I wouldn't touch corrective eye surgery at the moment, even if it was free, unless my career depended on it. Which it doesn't.
