iPod Shuffle

I have just bought one of these for Lizzies birthday. It is a really nice bit of kit with very good sound. However, I have one gripe with the software, iTunes. Everytime I try to use it to rip music from her cd's it hogs masses of system rescources to the point where you can not work at your computer for the lag.

I am really surprised by this because my computer is not what you would call low powered for the task. Eventually I gave up using iTunes for anything but transfering the music to the iPod itself.

I would heartilly recommend buying one, i managed to just about get 9 albums on the 512mb version. I was impressed by that. I am more used to carrying my entire music collection with me (20gb Creative Zen Touch) but for running in the gym etc this seems perfect.

I will update this once we have tried the 'Autofill' functions etc.

Strange concepts...Carrying all your music with you? Running in the gym? All very well, but how can you do that and carry the speakers, the amplifier, the CD deck, all the CDs, the miles of power line???

It could be that your cd-rom drivers are pish, or that iTunes is a poorly written piece of poo. God forbid. I'm not even going to ask how much it cost, although I am somewhat surprised you only managed to fit nine albumens on it. Also, what the hell is autofill? I could answer at least two of those questions myself, but I'm just lazy.

The nine albums was due to Robbie Williams having 30 minuite hidden tracks on the end of every album. This adds about 150mb of useless rubbish. I think Lizzie has decided to get more of her music on and just have her favourites on the iPod.

Cost ?69.

iTunes is a poor written piece of poo. . . probably due to the fact that should probably be on a mac. . . .

Autofill takes a selection of tracks from the library at random. As the iPod is a randomiser anyway is a quick way to fill the memory up.

Yes,john. A little something we youths call an Ipod, (or Ipod shuffle in this case). All those old vinyl tracks, or more recently CDs, can now be transported anywhere, in something so small, you're unlikely to notice you're carrying it. Speakers? Amplifiers?.....Headphones. Power line? nah too limiting.

Funny stuff this technology eh?

Yeah my friend just got one of these. Seems impressed that it can play songs in a random order, (hence ipod SHUFFLE obviously).

On a related note. Lizzie was so impressed with her Shuffle that she wanted a fulled fledged iPod. Thus I bought her one for Christmas and she has been over the moon about that one too. I think it must be her favourite gadget of all time. :D She chose the 30gb black iPod.

I am really impressed with the iPod colour screen, it is crystal clear and sharp as anything. The size is also very good for the hard drive version, I would recommend the full iPod too! The only gripe I have is still the iTunes software. It is slow on the old start up but it is slowly winning me over as it does the search realtime (like the iMac search) which is fantastic.

I would also have prefered the headphones to come in black to match the iPod but that is a silly thing to gripe about!

Maybe so. Expensive thing the Ipod. I know a lot of people who have them, but I ask is it really any better than others on the market? I recently noticed it seems classed above the rest to the point of being a different thing entirely. I was reading the notes from the exam board, whos exams I will be sitting in January, and they stated that mp3 players and Ipods are not allowed in the exam room, as they may provide an unfair advantage. Personally I don't see how but thats irrelevant of my point. Is and Ipod not an Mp3 player? I know they have other functions, like storing images but I know a lot of other mp3 players on the market are also capable of such.

As I type this I am listening to music on a Goodmans GMP32000S mp3 player, easy to use, a bit awkward to install the windows98se driver, (or maybe the cd is faulty). But I wouldn't say it was any poorer quality than an Ipod.

In defence of the ipod after investigation it is not really that much more expensive than the other equivalents on the market. If you are looking for a 30gb player then ?219.00 is a very good price. I personally own a creative Zen Touch MP3 player which is a 20gb player and that was bought about 12 months ago for ?189.99.

As for the player itself it is stylish and well programmed. I would deffo recommend apple over the equiventents at the mement. The iPod was not the first but it is the definitive, currently! Saying that in terms of music it does the same job as your goodmans - save it will carry Lizzie's whole music collection where ever she wants to go, I personally think that is impressive (especially since Robbie tracks take up about 1gb

I can see why they are banned in exams - you could have answers recorded in mp3 format on the player or images from text books on the image storing versions. It is interesting that they differentiate from mp3 players and iPods though, it just goes to show that apple have marketed the devise really really well for lay persons. . . . .

It would seem strange on the outset to think an Ipod, (or mp3 player, ect) could be classed as stylish, but yeah I think there is definately a difference across the market. By this I mean it really shows the difference between an Ipod and say and 128mb mp3 player from Asda.

As for carrying entire music collections, I doubt my mp3 player would cope with much in comparison, but 2Gb is more than enough for me...at least for the time being anyway.

My sister got an ickle slinky Sony mp3 player. Don't know how good the software is, but it looks cool. Quite possibly this one.

I really like the fact that there does not seem to be any edge to the screen in that one. It is a small shame that they can not use the same technology with colour screens. I was looking at that mp3 player earlier this year when it was released. Was the sound any good???
