I was amused and intereseted by this article on the BBC website. Aparently they are building a bomb proof shelter in case of catastrophy in a far away place (ie difficult to get to after a major disaster) to store lots of seeds to maintain plant diversity.

All very biblical aint it. :D

okay, if when the nuclear holochaust comes and someone who knows where this thing is is still alive to tell the people who need it, how many decades/centuries are we going to have to wait until atmospheric conditions have return to a normal enough state for things to grow again?

A really funny thing just struck me. When we all emerge we will know that to the north of us somewhere is an lsland that contains salvation. If I could ONLY remember the name of the ISLAND and the TOWN. But wait, it is on the internet! DOH!!!!!

No doubt everyone will have fallen out with each other by then anyway! I can just imagine Australia and New Zealand having an argument over the Eucalyptus tree

I love the ''Beware of Polar Bears'' sign on the road. That is quality. You know you are somewhere remote when you see that on your travels!

My dad maintains an interesting theory about nuclear holocaust, based on cockraoches. they are reputed to be able to withstand nuclear radiation and would thus survive the fallout. and from that point of genetic development, evolution would start again. it might not lead to the same "denouement" again - maybe it'd be humans with three legs, if we went through the process again.

Well, our ancestors must've been relatively survivable, although I'm not sure if we've actually had an extinction-level event to test that theory since the ol' dinosaurs. It's just that in the specific nuclear scenario, cockroaches would be all set to take over the world, it would seem.
