In a regional paper that is free on most trains busses etc in the North West there is a daily item called the fact file. Yesterdays fact was
Metro Fact File wrote:During World War II, fighter pilots ate lots of carrots to improve their sight at night. The Vegatables are rich in carotene, which was then thought to help with vision. And in 640AD, Welsh soldiers wore a leek in their bonnets to identify themselves to their fellow soldiers against the saxons. Leeks are thought to bring good luck.
I could not believe my eyes with the first part of the fact. Carrots were NOT thougth to improve eyesight. The government created that PROPOGANDA about the carrot to conceal the invetion of Radar which was making air battles alot easier! I was amazed that this story is still misunderstood as truth and thought I would share.
I suspect that the normal author of the Fact File is on holiday and the job has been given to a student. In typical student style, the article will have been left till the last minute and been cobbled together using a combination of Google and coffee.
Nothing says "romance" like a kidnapped injured woman!
The annoying thing is that my mum used this as an excuse to throw huge amounts of carrots down my neck as a kid. I only stopped eating them by the bucketload because my grandad informed me of the real truth when I was seven. Now this spawned a family argument regarding ''interference'' which reigned for a few months according to my dad.
I was also told to eat brocolli because elephants ate it and they were strong
I believe that it is written by a menk or a mitmop of a society
elephants eat brocolli? it's amazing the kind of rubbish we used to believe when we were kids...or maybe i should say it's amazing how often adults lie to children and some how think its a good idea to fill their heads with this kind of tosh. now, if you'll excuse me i have to go and pull faces until the wind changes because apparently it could be cheaper than plastic surgery...
