If you are going to name it after a person then name it after a famous person that we all respect or a person who has done something with his life.
(No offence intended Mike, I know you didn't choose it.)
We could even be quite intelligent and name it after a Greek or Roman God or Goddess because that is how eight planets were named. The only exception being 'earth' which I believe dates back to a word derived from old english.
We could be named after one of the following,
Vesta - Roman Goddess of Home
Maia - Roman Goddess of Growth
Minerva - Roman Goddess of Wisdom
Ceres - Roman Earth Goddess
Bacchus - Roman God of Wine
Atlas - Greek God who carried the world on his back
Metis - Greek Goddess of Wisdom
Coeus - Greek God of Intelligence
