Diet or ordinary? I've always sworn by the powers of diet coke (from a can, not a bottle) for hangover relief, so it's nice to see it getting some real medical recommendation.

Apparently that 'Doctor degree' that I bought off the internet doesn't actually allow me to practise medicine...

Beat me to it, I was about to ask to see "Dr." Chris's certificate. But if it's good enough for Al and a doctor, hell, I'll be stocking up on the stuff. I thought dehydration was part of the problem, and I don't really see how coke's going to help with that? Oh, well, I ain't no doctor.

As a fluid it also rehydrates, I forgot to mention that. Incidently I was chatting to my boss today as we were driving through Oldham and she said when her 5 year old daughter was ill on holiday in A&E the doctor actually said the best thing for her was a glass of Coke for the sugar and fluid reasons mentioned above.
The soft drink manufacturers should be proud of themselves, having said that I don't think the dentists will be too chuffed?! remember guys, when consuming sugary products you must brush your teeth afterwards, as recommended by the British Dental Association. :D

I was about to say that Coca-Cola is a diuretic (ie causes fluid loss), but articles online are mixed: some are saying you're still left with a water surplus as the diuretic effect isn't as severe as alcohol, others not. Arguably the sugar and caffeine offset any negative dehydration issues, though. I'll be trying it next time I'm hungover, anyways.

I've also heard that drinking coke right after a meal may actually help strip the plaque from your teeth. Good, no? Except if you have too much it then goes to work on the enamel...

Shedloads of coffee is also good for colds too, apparently.

Coca-Cola is around pH 2, which is almost as acidic as you can get. This has a pretty bad effect on teeth.....

Water is good.....but a nice cold glass of Chablis is more appealing.

I think I have put this on here before, it might even be this discussion post. However, I may not, so here it is.....

The New York Emergency services each carry with them a gallon of Coca-Cola because it is the best thing for getting rid of blood off the pavement. Every other product leaves a mark, with Coke, it is completely burnt off and washed away.

Now that is scary considering how much I've drunk of the stuff - my insides must be burnt to a crisp! I think I'll be like johnriley and stick with the Chablis..... Oh damn! My liver! Aaaaaahhhhh! Decisions, decisions, decisions.

If you go onto the Coca-Cola website, they actually have an urban myths section where they pussyfoot around all the questions like that, specificaly including the "coke for blood on roads" one. Apparently they've never heard of it happening, but I bet they never went out of their way to ask, either.

I've just checked it out and apparently they don't carry it but it has been proved that it can wash it off effectively according to Wikipedia.

The Urban Legend that most freaks me out is the ''someone died in a Coke drinking contest'' one. I don't believe it but it is still kind of weird.
