Billy Joel

Post by johnriley1uk »

We went to the Billy Joel concert at MEN Arena tonight, thanks to two tickets from Hazel for my Birthday. Thank you, Hazel, Rob and Beth!

It was a solid 2 hour and 20 minutes performance, with little chat, just a continuous run of songs. Billy Joel was in excellent voice, and even managed to do the best version of "Uptown Girl" that I have ever heard him do. He did flag slightly by the end (vocally) but it was a pretty smart performance.

Oddly, he did his early stuff better than the later, and his voice was absolutely up to the mark. His piano playing was superb, energetic and precise. The rest of the band were not quite as tight, although still very good, with the exception of the other best performer of the night, the familiar Mark Rivera.

So super stuff from Billy Joel, but we're not impressed by the one and a bit hours to get out of the car park....

4S :D

I am glad that you had a good time. Which car park were you in that required such a lenght to escape?

I am not really surprised that Billy Joel was flagging after nearly two hours of singing! :D

The Cathedral car park. It was a combination of dopey drivers trying to push their way out and a dopey exit system that took sometimes up to two minutes per car to get the barrier raised.

Incidentally, I wouldn't like to be in the Arena if a fire broke out. The exit paths there were totally hopeless. Do we know who designed it?

my parents went to see jamirique at the arena last year and there was a fire alarm - it took half an hour to clear the building[!] and a further hour to let everyone back in again because many had lost their tickets. it's a disaster waiting to happen
I came, I saw, I bought the T-shirt

Half a hour is not bad. The building will not fall down in that time so you would be perfectly safe. (as long as you avoided the fire that is).
