It does look like I will be unable to source one of these prior to the new years eve party. This is a real shame as the more the merrier and the more the stupider runs very true.

Everyone is quoting a January restocking time now. Doh! I think they are getting annoyed with me going in and asking every other day too.

I think I missed my boat by having to go to a meeting in Liverpool on Tuesday, on that day Virgin Megastores were quoting a slight stock level. Now they are gone! :D

Just a heads up Mike, Virgin may have stock in again. Someone in Bristol has seen stock today in their local store (not that all our department are after one, by hook or by crook at all!). :)

Having listened to my students rabbit on about this console for virtually eight hours a day...... I WANT ONE!!!!!!

Maybe it is just so I can take a picture of it and go ''Hah!'' or maybe it is because I want to play the Tennis game. I don't know. I just know, I want one quite and I am not ashamed. The way they have described it looks cool.

remember when nintendo brought out the SNES and no one could get hold of one for love or money? how history tirelessly repeats itself, or at least how the market artificially creates massive demand by under stocking. happens everytime and you still fall for it.

i think it is a very clever marketing strategy and to be honest Fez, we aint conned by it, we just want the console because it is unbelievably cool.

Their market strategy is so good that even I almost want one. Almost. It's mostly because of the cool controller. Incidentally, what on earth are people doing to them that Nintendo are having to replace so many wrist straps?

I liked the report in The Times stating that there had been a large number of hand injuries connected to breaking light bulbs or hitting furniture at a high degree of velocity. Made me laugh and wonder how stupid people are that they don't stand in a safe place!

it's actually a very obvious marketing strategy rather than a clever one, though i didn't mean to suggest there was any 'con' involved. i'm interested at the moment though at how little coverage the games themselves have got - are they any good and once the 'new toy sheen' has worn off those funky controllers, will they stand up the notoriously fickle interest level of most gamers?

Nintendo do have a reputation for putting out quality games, and they always seem to have a few decent multiplayer ones out. It's basically coming across as a fun multi-player orientated console that should bring a lot of new people into gaming (ie. older generations), which is pretty neat, really.

The really cool part is that you can download games on-line for it from the SNES, NES and the other one (not gamecube).

Apparently you can do this somehow but I don't really now how because I haven't seen one apart from a photo image.

Incidentally, am I the only person here who has never owned, or even really played on, any Nintendo gaming system? I get a funny feeling I am...

I still have a NES so I can play them OLD SKOOL! :D

I honestly do not think that it is a marketing strategy. People are more likely to spend money on an item for Christmas. It would serve them better to make sure that the shops were stocked sufficiently as they would earn a bigger part of the christmas market.

I think that Nintendo were pushed to get it out for christmas and could not finish the design and produce a sufficient number in time.

PS3 is history. XBox 360 will have 12 months on it and Nintendo has all the hype.

Ahem...I've got a Wii! :D Mike at work pre-ordered one from Argos, then brought one from us when we de-allocated some stock from one of our sales members who had ordered himself 100! Now the Argos one has been delivered over the weekend, he had a spare one...for about 10 seconds! :D

Sadly, I may only have it for this week. My brother pre-ordered one on-line that was supposed to be delivered before Xmas but that one doesn't look like getting here. So I'll have a week of play, then have to take it home. :( Then when my brothers' finally turns up, I'll get one back.
