O2 are cutting the price of their 8gb model to £169 which is another strong indication that the 3G model is around the corner.

Engadget are reporting that a 3G iPhone will be available very soon without the revenue sharing (ie as part of your contract) rather than £329 that you need at the moment. This has been unconfirmed by Telecom Italia, however, it was reported by a paper which I believe is equivalent to the Times. :-D

Come on Apple, don't keep us waiting, these many rumours just goes to show how much we want this product! :-D

Mike shouldn't that read how much I want this product! ;-)
I'd love to have one, but dread to think how knackered it'd get after living with me for a week or two!

I seriously think your talents are underused Phil, you definitely need to be a product tester!

I think so too! (I love tested to destruction on the gadget show- its a buyers guide made specifically for me!)
I've snapped a v3i phone, cracked a nokia tough phone, broken a g-shock watch... the list goes on.
I'd like to state in my defence that I'm not trying to break things (or that I'm careless)- I still have my first ever grown up watch, and I'm slightly neurotic about my camera etc. Its just that all the stuff I carry on a daily basis is subjected to an "active" lifestyle. i'd guess Tony is similar- outdoorsy work and gadgets don't always go together.

Becky despairs at how quickly I wear thru a pair of trainers, 6months is considered a good lifespan from me! (I DID product test as a kid- clarks kidproof shoes. I wore new shoes for a month, and if they went back without scuffed soles and torn leather they were considered tough enough. It was great! Free shoes AND I got paid in He-man toys... I suspect these may have been paid for by my wages, but agents/parents will take their cut!).

Back to the iphone... I'd love to have one for the oooohhh factor, but would be terrified that I'd break it. It looks brilliant for anyone who could look after it. My next phone will probably be the Samsung "Tough"- as seen on last weeks gadget show!

Did you see when they tested gadgets to destruction on a TV show recently? I loved the fact that they tested an ipod to the point where the army guy tasked with fucking it up was getting pretty pissed off with it still working (after drenching, dunking and general stamping, driving over etc) and shot it from a clay pigeon range machine and blasted it full of shot. It just damaged the metal back and still worked (though it looked like hell!).

Macworld have reported that Microsoft have beat Apple to the punch and released a touch screen smart phone with 3G before the expected iPhone release. After looking at the images I personal think they should have spent some more time researching and designing the phone rather than rushing a piece of poop like that out onto the market.

Well, it does look a little clunky. You never know, it might be a joy to use.

It won't be a joy to use at all. As Chris Banks commented about the Zune, all Micro$oft want to do is get a product in the marketplace. They're not bothered if it sells or works well, they just want to say...'Anything you can do, so can we'.

CNet have reported that O2 are now totally out of stock of 8gb and 16gb iPhones. In addition to this Engadget are reporting that AT&T sales staff are not being allowed to take any holiday between June 15 2008 and July 12 2008. Yet another rumour to indicate a second generation iPhone being around the next corner. Que Lizzie rolling her eyes and being very frustrated. :-D

Wired have an interesting image that shows the iPhone 3G setting being on / off which sort of suggests that battery life could be extending by switching between the two settings or the two generations of phone will be using the same OS. The image was pulled up by reverse engineering the latest SDK (Software Developer Kit) released by apple.

The more interesting thing was the VPN settings. Might set up my home computer to work over a VPN with my iPhone when it comes. Now that would really be a quality business phone, no more of this 'oh its on my home / work computer problems any more! Yay.

Part I of our iPhone news iGet 2.0 will allow you to access your mac from your iPhone. Cool bit of programming or what?

Part II of our iPhone news Steve Jobs will be opening the Apple WWDC08 with a Keynote speech implying that an imminent second generation iPhone is on the way. Woot. :-D

Import Genius is reporting that a mysterious Apple devise that has been shipped in 20 containers to the US of A under the rather un-informative heading. 3G Computer device. The records have been lodged with the Customs in the US and supports the idea that a 3G iPhone will be released in the next couple of weeks.

Cnet were the original news site that brought the Import Genius to my attention.

I wonder if we could do a similar thing in the UK? The biggest disappointment will be if the 3G iPhone is not available until August in the UK. :-0
