Settlers: Heritage of Kings

Post by Mike »

The latest Settlers has been released. The game shots on the cover look damned good. I will be installing and playtesting over next couple of days. If anyone has tried it let me know how it plays.

Flip me: those screenshots look nothing like any version of Settlers I've ever seen. Gone are the cartoon-style graphics. I hope it plays as good as it looks for you...

So do I or it will have been such a waste of time installing it. The review in edge was not encouraging but I am still holding out hope as a settlers fan.

Settlers Update

Post by Mike »

This is a very pretty game. It sort of reminds me of how Tzar: Burden of the Crown SHOULD have been.

I am stunned that is lags during ingame movie sequences. According the the recommended specs my PC is at the top end of the requirements. Luckilly the game runs well but I have not played it for more than 20 mins at the mo.

I will vote when I have played a level or two.

Time for a new graphics card. Maybe. Personally, I tend to at least double the recommended system requirements to have a hope in hell of it running smoothly. Was Tzar the psycho impossible one?

Tzar was the game where you started the level and got killed in about 30 seconds flat cos they had about 5 barracks nearby.

It was insanely difficult and annoying. More so because of the wierd programming.

Well I have played about 4 levels now. This is a very slick game which seems to speed up the more I play it. The only problem so far is the difficulty level. There are in game triggers that when activated start events. If you dont go and activate the trigger you can wander around the map destroying the enemies and building up your rescources very easilly.

On the 3rd map I litterally took over the enemy base, built my structures instead and then when the trigger activated it claimed that the robbers were operating from inside my town!!!!!

Other than that it is more entertaining that a kick in the trosks.

Game finished with more than a little feeling of 'Next'. To say it was too easy is an understatement.

Saying that there is a bug on the last level which kept producing new waves of troops despite me having destroyed the enemy keep there. This made the final level more difficult as I needed 2 huge armies to keep them at bay.

Conclusive proof that you should never trust a screenshot to give any indication of quality. Ah, well, San Andreas shouldn't disappoint.

been playing san andreas on my bro's ps II they finished it..... took them a couple of months and believe me that a long time for them... game area is huge and detailed cars still defy most of laws of physics and stealing planes and army choppers is great fun for all the family.

Also been playing Gran Tourismo 4 which is bueatiful. really pretty, fast and smooth, excellent repsonsive cars.

Can't decide wether to get a psII in summer or wait till next yr and get a PSIII

don't knock em... they great little things and i have a big telly so perfect.

ps2's are indeed super, but I can't handle not having a mouse to aim with for things like GTA. Incidentally, I've just found out that my play disc for GTA III is screwed. Bah humbug.

It's giving me the dreaded read errors, on two separate drives. Not a good sign. I also believe the guarantee on storage media is 90 days. You might want to be making some back-up copies in future, bearing that in mind.
