connect four

Post by Fez »

i'm not much of a computer games player anymore but i'm still a sucker for old board games and connect four is still one of my favourites. i am, as many of you will have witnessed recently, not actually very good at playing it having received several sound thrashing from rowenna, but the enjoyment of the competition is enough. do any of you still long for games of a simpler nature or are you only interested in things that appear on computer screens and need a degree in econmics to work out how to play?

it's just occured to me that someone somewhere will probably have made a computerised version of connect four, and if any of you know where to find a link to such a place, keep it to yourself

I wish I could play poker, that would be pretty cool. Nothing like sitting around a table with someone quietly thrashing you at card games.

On Saturday me and Rowenna purchased Connect Four from Asda from the princely sum of ?4.94! In my eyes, that is a bargain because a) it is a great game b) it has already provided hours of entertainment for her whilst I watched the snooker. I can honestly say that I think board games are cool - monopoly is a favourite but it takes too long sometimes. I am also a big fan of Cluedo.

Whilst in Asda I also saw other reasonably priced games - Operation was under ?7! That has got to be bought soon! Asda also do their own versions of games - ''Guess Who'' becomes ''Who's Who'', etc, and these versions are all under ?4 and will be purchased soon. Battleships and Buckaroo for ?5 are also a must.

Has anyone ever played mouse trap because that was fairly cheap at ?12 and neither of us have ever played it.

Mouse trap is ace. I used to own a copy of that but I don't know where it is any more. Battleships is one of my favourite but I always played that using a pen and grid paper so it sounds weird to play on a board!

noughts and crosses is a great game before you learn the tricks and every game becomes predictable. probably not worth playing this one after the age of twenty.

incidently, does anyone know why this game is called 'tick tack toe' in america?

Americans are dumb. They can't even spell colour.

Noughts and Crosses is great but every game does become predictable. It is a good game to play in the car on long journeys.

One of my favourite card games is Uno - this is one game that the outcome cannot be predicted and it is really frustrating at times, especially when you win and your opponent only has cards to the value of 2! Very annoying!

why this insistance on claiming americans are dumb? american-english is an officially recognised language and therefore different from, er, english-english. in fact why do we spell colour the way we do - the 'u' is silent and therefore useless, might as well have some empty-figurehead who holds absolutely no power to pretend to lead the country...oh wait...

My comment was mocking. Let's not get into phonetics. Please, please, please, for my sanity, please, please, please, can't take, will kill you all.

Me and Rowenna bought Guess Who? today and it is a quality game - costs ?3.97 from ASDA - and is called ''Who's Who?''.

We also bought the gigantic chess set for the garden and it was great fun playing with my father. Real good laugh over a bottle of wine this evening. Quality fun. Cost - ?21.87 - rom ASDA. I say ''gigantic'' loosely - the pieces are about 8-10 inches high, depending on which ones they are.
I think it represents reasonable value and it is something that will be played countless times this summer and various opportunites - overall - I'd say it was a well-worth investment - especially at barbeques!

Tday was almost good barbecue weather, but it's getting a little cool now. Give it a few more weeks and we'll soon be around Mike's, being sick in his garden and eating flame-grilled meats. Speaking of which, I need to check to see how our barbecue's doing rust-wise.
