Oh dear all Vista users the One Live security centre has failed the minimum participation score to be compared in a anti virus competition. For shame.

 Not a great surprise! The advise then (as always) is to buy a proper piece of Anti-Virus software, one developed by a company with a reputation for not building giant security holes into their software would be a good idea!

Norton Anti-Virus was pre-installed on my machine...phew!

We brought you the PS3 clone of a Xbox 360 now we have a Vista Advert featuring an iBook (apple for all you non tech buffs!) ironic aint it. The weird thing is that with new intel chips it might even run better than on a PC!

Another blow for Windows Vista - Dell is restoring Windows XP on 6 of their range of computers following strong customer demand. This is probably due to the fact NOTHING seems to work with Vista! :D

Yeah, I can't say I'd want Vista if I bought a new computer next year. Makes me glad my computer came with an actual XP disc and not pre-installed. Good news, though, as updates for XP will continue for another two years, then it'll be security-only updates until 2014. Hopefully Vista will be a more feasible option in a year or so.

Well now microsoft obviously want to hog as much system resources as possible with Vista that is for sure, however, they are taking the biscuit with the latest waste of processing power - Dreamscene desktops. . .[/url] which are basically animated screen backdrops. The tag line should be

'Do you want to waste your time with a slow and laborious computer? Do you want to justify an upgrade to the highest spec computer just to run word and the Dreamscene at the same time? If so you should buy a windows operating system. The operating system for total processor hogs.'

Then in small print.

'When running Dreamscene you will not be able to run any other program's. If you want to actually have a computer with any speed, we recommend you buy a OS X.'

Microsoft have dropped the Vista 'kill switch' that disabled a copy of vista if it was found to be illegal. The problem with it was that genuine copies were being 'killed' due to a software fault (I think it had something to do with the software crashing mid authorisation) now they are going to display clear indications that Vista is not genuine and how to take action.

I am not sure if this is a better system or not. . . I almost think it would be better to improve the 'kill switch' than drop it entirely. It has halved the number of Vista pirate copies out there.

I had the same feelings on this issue Mike, why drop the feature just because it wasn't written well? It seems to be working as per stopping hacked copies. Unless the displays are seriously irritating (i.e. Pop-ups ALL the time), then I can see people quite happily working alongside them.

It could be like a copy of Vectorworks I saw once. It notified on open. Notified again after 15 minutes, again after 10, again after 5 - if you had not got the hint after than then it kicked you out of the programme without allowing you to save. It really annoyed them! HAHHAHAHAHAHA

They must've been seriously quick at using Vectorworks after that. Adapt and overcome an' all that.

Is dropping the "kill switch" a tacit admission that they simply cannot make it work properly? I always thought piracy levels were lower because no-one could be arsed using it, given the negative press surrounding issues like this one. I'm really hoping Vista stops sucking so badly before I need to get a new computer, or I can re-use my copy of XP.

Or you could join the Light side of the force and buy a mac! No more worries about stupid vista. . . . The lack of interest might be to blame for the lower levels of privacy. It IS an admission they can not get the software to work OR they can not be bothered (too expensive) to investigate all the 'genuine copy' people out there.

I'm still going to stay away from Macs, partly in protest at their iTunes store being one of the worst things in terms of consumer choice and DRM. Besides, they now use Intel chips, so eventually they may just become uber-PCs anyway, hardware-wise. Or...maybe not.

Apple don't want DRM and have publicly written to all the major backing music studios regarding this. They don't really see the point when you can buy CD's which are DRM free and this makes up about 95% of the market!

To be certain DRM is the condition music studios place on iTunes in order to enable the service to exist at all. Lets be honest - you don't have to buy music from them! :D

It's more for the fact that you're locked into their software and/or hardware when you buy anything from the iTunes store due to the special format they use. Should've made myself clearer on that point. Doh.

I have not heard that one. Are you talking about AAC format? I suppose it is no more annoying than the WMA format. . . .
