Vandalism
I admire your faith in the political system and the local political scene Fez. Are you a floating voter and will you be charging down the main street beating your fist on the door the moment the polls open for business?Fez wrote:if you're thinking of local councillers at wigan, don't bother. they couldn't find their own arses even if they started with their hands down their pants. i should know, i work for them!
i'm planning on dropping by the polling station on my way to the late shop for some crisps and chocolate in a little while. not that it will make a difference - this is a labour heart land afterall, it would take something truly inspiration to get most of the people round here under sixty off their asses and into the votes.
I came, I saw, I bought the T-shirt
That is true - you could put a brass pig up here with a red rosette and it would always get it - my grandad's words, not mine - but I get his generaly drift.Fez wrote:i'm planning on dropping by the polling station on my way to the late shop for some crisps and chocolate in a little while. not that it will make a difference - this is a labour heart land afterall, it would take something truly inspiration to get most of the people round here under sixty off their asses and into the votes.
Anyway, I went to the police station on thursday to see how the vandalism report is progressing and they were very disparaging and very rude to me. Probably not the best thing to do happened next, I told the woman not to be so disparaging. She said she wasn't. I told her that I taught Drama and that I know all about tone and body language. Amazingly, her entire demeanour changed and her tone of voice suddenly changed. I know it will put my case back a fortnight, but it was strangely worth it. In all honesty, if this is how they speak to Joe Public then it is no wonder they have the amount of problems they do. God help me or you lot if we spoke to Joe Public like this - we'd probably be sacked or have no business/work left!

If I spoke to clients like that then I would have been sacked there is no two ways about it. They are the ones paying the bills at the end of the day and you need to make sure that you have infinite patience - very very difficult with some clients.

Ugh, don't talk to me about customers. They're all hateful, ungrateful scrotes. At least that would be my opinion if most of them weren't generally really nice, even in the face of crippling disabilities and imminent death. I think I need a new job within a year or so.
Andy, you may simply have caught her on a bad day, or they may be cronically over-worked and threatened with random job cuts if the general state of public services prevails there. Or both.

the problem with customer service is trying to divide the public from the business as if they don't both contain people trying to get on with life in circumstances that are complex and troublesome. i get parents at school being so mind-numbing thick it's surprising they have the mental dexerity to remain conscious, and unfortunately i get pissed off and some times hand this bad attitude out to the next person i come across who hasn't done anything wrong.
think about this woman at the police station - no doubt nine out of ten of the people she has to deal with are lager-louts and and other assorted tossers, so its hardly surprising she might not be in a great mood must of the time. is it right for her to pass that onto you? no, but it does happen - i've done it and will do it again because people come to me with their problems when i've got enough of my own to put up with. it's not fair, it's just life

Well, would you believe it, after a number of phone calls and deliberating, the bloke visited me last night and gave me ?110 for the garden pillar.
It was a very bizaare moment, he drove up in this huge BMW (and I mean huge) with some hardcore American gangster rapping going on, got out and was about 5 foot 2 inches tall, white and looked like Woody with a goatee beard! I had to stiffle laughter, I really did. He was the sort of bloke that wears a bomber jacket to make up for his lack of muscles.
He tried to fob me off on some lame excuse about how it happened - the only thing is that I had seen how it happened because one of my schoolkids videophoned it - when I told him this he went completely white and admitted that he had revved it too fast at the junction, lost control and tried to flee the scene of the crime.
Anyway, he gave me the money and I can get it fixed now - I'm going to get it widened and have the drive block paved - I've been working on the garden all week in preparation!
