New Police Fingerprinting

Hello all

I was wondering what you all thought of the new Police stop and finger print plans. I do think that this is another nail in the coffin for freedom here. I wonder what they are going to do with all of those pieces of information which they collect. Build a massive uber database? I would have thought so.

I wonder how long it will be before people really start to question the logic behind some of these initiatives.

Some poor innocent is going to be fingerprinted in this way, the computer will make a false match and days of interrogation and deprivation of liberty will follow. Eventually, with no apology, the victim will be released.

The villains will not stop to be fingerprinted, and if they did it would be the height of stupidity.

Governments should realise by now that the technology rarely works on the scale they want it to.

Correct me if I'm wrong but my understanding was that you only get fingerprinted if your caught breaking the law (ie. speeding/ driving recklessly). I didn;t think it was just a general stop and finger print anyone policy- just an extension of current legislation to include minor offences such motoring offences .

In which case - surely the answer is that if you don't want to be finger printed don't break the law. Probably it's more of deterrent than anything.

at present people taken into custody have to give dna samples whether it turns out they did anything or not for the national database, this fingerprinting if anything isn't would seem like a lesser evil

This sounds like I want to avoid all types of police contact, it sounds like the beginning of the end when a law abiding citizen can not refuse to give up personal information and liberties. They are turning into a very powerful organisation.

Anyone want to join a Friday the 13th Plot like in 1307? It worked with the Knights Templar. . . . (Maybe this is a joke in poor taste. . . let me know!) :D

PS Maybe the Beginning of the end has already begun, it could be the downside of the totally global information share. If so I may be one of the first emigrants to Mars. Just think what I could design in Low-G atmosphere. :D

If you were innocent, can you request destruction of your sample after a certain amount of time? If you end up getting arrested and let off, you'd be pretty unlucky. Or you hang around with miscreants and should know better.

Mike, if you have to go to Mars, you're practically obliged to build a mile-high phallic tower. If you don't, someone else will.

Do non of you watch police camera action or road wars? Most of the oiks they stop they stop have driving bans, no insurance, no tax and no MOT they then sit there and tell bare faced lies about who they are.

What are you worried about Mike? Are you a house breaker on the side?

I say bring it on and the more shell suit clad scally knobs that get picked up the better. I imagine it is also an excellent way of finding people with outstandng warrants etc. blow into this box swipe fingers over this reader. You're Knicked!

The outstanding warrants one is an excellent bonus, as they won't be the sort of people who can be relied upon to turn up within a few days to provide ID at their nearest police station. This does make the major assumption it doesn't go down the standard government technology route.
