We had this chat yesterday about Asterix characters and I found this website showing them all. The bard was called Cacofonix and always ended up being tied up when they were partying at the end to stop him singing! :D (Cacofonix is supposed to link with Cacophony - ie a bad din!)
The author is Rene Goscinny and the artist is Albert Uderzo.

I was looking on Amazon and you can get these comics for about £5 each which is pretty good. I may just start the ball rolling with Asterix the Gaul and see if I still enjoy them!

Well, I own them all. My dad decided that he would buy me one every time we went near a Waterstones. Off hand I would say at least 75% are well worth having, the others are average.
As a tip, if you are going to buy them all, don't buy them all at once because they get rather repetitive if you read them all at once. Plus, you miss the subtle jokes. I still read them occassionally when I am at a loss for things to do.
