Is Nostalgia what it used to be?

Post by johnriley1uk »

Being an unpredictable soul, one minute I'm selling my old junk on eBay and the next I'm buying a copy of "Little Black Sambo" because I had one as a child and just want to see it again....So the junk is renewed and then recycled yet again....

OK, so I was just wondering what you guys thought was a nostalgic item that you'd lost and just might want to find again sometime? I know the time scale will be different from mine, but I'm pretty sure the principle will be the same.

My item that I'm almost never going to find is a book. I don't even know the title, but I would know the illustrations if i saw it. I also know it was published in the small hardback series published by Nelson, and the cover was red. Is that pretty obscure? Maybe, but I've so far reassembled quite a lot of my childhood books, so one day you never know...

What will I do with them? Well, once they are collected then the job is done, and once again they will be sent to oblivion, to eBay, and they will find another sad character who seeks what I seek!

Life is so ephemeral.... :D

I had an owl once. Or at least, I know someone who had an owl once. Not sure if it qualifies as nostalgia though. I do remember having a "Post Office" set when I was a small child which I think my Mum threw away when SHE decided I was to old for it.

Oooh the bitterness in that statement is palatable. . . .

I will one day probably be nostalgic about NES entertainment systems, transformer toys (I always wanted to own a full set of the transformer toys - so that I could build one of the larger scale toys. . .) I suspect however, that I will never find these items or be bothered to collect them. There is just too much good new items being released on the market to warrant the effort.

Having spent much of the last two months undergoing my own mini life laundry and getting rid of mountains of stuff. Do i feel a pang of regret? No, I most definately don't.

One day if we carry on like this we might have a tidy house and being able to manouvre between rooms without havbing to dodge junk is far more fullfilling than having a shelves full of stuff gathering dust.

I remember seeing this lovely minimalist barn conversion on Britain's Best Homes (or whatever), but they had kids. So open up the nice white cupboards, and there was just loads of stuff shoved in it. Culling is the way.

Yes, with clubs, like they do with seals, so as not to damage to skin. Then they can be sold on ebay.

On the nostalgia side, I mostly desire music and books, so I can't think of anything I really crave from my childhood...nope...

if there's one thing i crave from my childhood that i know i will never get back, is the innocence before i realised the world is an evil monster that will destroy us all.
