I have just read that Netscape Navigator is no longer going to be developed by AOL. They are removing the browser from general circulation and giving up on the browser wars. I don't think they were really giving it much publicity to be fair and have really struggled to regain their 90% market share from the mid-90's. Apparently they are only getting a 0.6% share of the market at the moment which is to be honest pretty poor.
I have been looking at the statistics and these are the market shares of major browsers.
1 @ 36.3% Firefox
2 @ 33.6% IE version 6 (why don't people upgrade?! It is free after all. . . .
3 @ 21% IE version 7
4 @ 1.8% Safari (everyone's favourite apple browser )
5 @ 1.8% Opera
6 @ 1.6% IE version 5 (wtf?!)
7@ 1.2% Mozilla (ie version prior to Firefox)
Overall by manufacturer the statistics are:
1 @ 56.2% Microsoft
2 @ 37.5% Firefox
3 @ 1.8% Safari / Opera
Pretty interesting eh?! The statistics can be found here.
