I want to know where they found those 3,000 people they surveyed. If it was actually a representative sample, then it shows that knowledge of history is no longer deemed relevant (or that people like to take the piss when completing surveys).

I suppose it always depends on who you survey. Statistic's can show what ever you want really. There was a film called Winston Churchill the Hollywood Years that said he was a fictional character called Ray Bubbles - that is probably where particularly thick people got confused.

I could understand if they'd surveyed Americans, but dude... surely this stuff is taught in pre-GCSE history? I'm convinced people must be taking the piss with their answers, or it's just a reflection on a society where the events of sixty years ago are no longer relevant.

The thing that annoys me is when statistics are mixed, like in this made-up statement: "53% of customers expressed satisfaction and four out of five extreme satisfactcion." Or meaningless statements like, "Sales were buoyant, increasing by £5000." That might be very good if total sales for a company were only £50,000, but pretty terrible if it were Microsoft!
