New Midwives!
Rebecca and friends will be pleased to see that the NHS is going to be taking on 4000 new midwives to ease current shortages. At the moment newly qualified midwives are really struggling to get jobs at hospitals. That should hopefully all change now!

Good news indeed, seeing as it's something that should've happened ages ago. Although since when do we have a "spiralling birth rate"!? I thought we were in a level population kind of situation? It's not like we need more people on what is already a crowded island.

Lets hope the Government don't do what they did last time though - put money into training extra midwives, but not into the hospitals so they can actually be employed post qualification !!!

Re: New Midwives!
I think that is what the difference is compared with the last push. Last time they trained lots of midwives then brought some in from other countries to cope with the short term shortage. Now they are looking to employ some of those trained individuals, if they can still find them that is.

last push... midwives... ha ha!
Sorry, I'm feeling childish today. Must be the fact that I'm off till wed!
Slightly more seriously it is abit ridiculous that the people are encouraged to gain valuable qualifications and then can't actually get a job to use them in. It happens across the board unfortunately. Maybe they should all move to australia- they have a skills gap and are willing to offer good incentives to those with desirable skills to relocate...

Re: New Midwives!
Funny you should mention that, Lizzie's sister was thinking of moving to Australia for just that reason.
