Two lessons from Sunday and beyond:

If you drink a bottle of white wine, you may well decide to drink that bottle of red as well. After that, a can of Red Stripe will seem like a great idea... then I drank fecking Pernod and Coke. About two glasses of it. I got to bed at 2am.

Going in to work the day after said event is not pleasant, even if you did throw up just before eating breakfast. The hangover and mild headache were just about gone by the time I went to bed that evening.

To summarise: I cannot be trusted with house parties and alcohol.

Phil, all that talk of snow storms is making me miss home! Driving in it does indeed suck, though.

We nearly had to drive through a snow storm on Monday night but it seems localised around the start of the M56 and by the time we were on the M6 it was clear as a bird! :-D

Things I learnt this morning:

1. I am billable at £37 an hour. Which is more than I think I'm worth!

2. Our marketing department is a sucker for a rubbish idea! Basically wave some cash under their noses and they'll sign up for any stupid scheme!

My doctor says I'm overweight!! She did the BMI test on me- I scored 27. She told me that I obviously need to excersise more!
I had to point out that my weight training violates the key assumption of the test (by putting up muscle mass, thus making me heavier than average) she argued- so I told her to google it, she did and apparently I'm right.
(I'll ignore the fact I was wearing jeans AND boots!-which cant help!)

I AM IN SHAPE- ROUND IS A SHAPE!

Meh! That must be a bit annoying, was it a student doctor or a proper one? What was the point of the test, or were you just interested. It is a meaningless test when you think about it, I am probably on dead normal for BMI calc but and not very fit at all because I infrequently exercise. []

Another lesson from the BBQ: "Are you growing it out?" is not the most flattering comment, especially when someone has just had their hair cut. Even if you are slightly drunk.

You've go to be a little worried when doctors don't even know the exceptions to the BMI scales. Like Mike, I'm about "normal", but probably more non-fit than Mike. The BMI lies!

If it makes you feel any better then I think you are worth more - but I know I can afford to pay £37 per hour to be a friend therefore don't take it as a promise to pay more!

I suppose your hourly rate will also consist of overheads and profit so (in a professional environment) you salary would be typically 1/3 - 1/2 of the hourly rate. Depending on how efficient the office is really. :-D

Thanks Mike, that cheered me up on a truly miserable morning!

You're right about the costing taking into account stuff like personal liability insurance, health cover, etc...at that rate I would be on about 60-grand a year and therefore wouldn't be driving a 11 year old Fiesta and living in a rented flat!

I've learnt today that if the wind gets any stronger I may not have a flat left by the time I get back tonight, if the creaking and cracking sounds last night were anything to go by!

:-) Definitely! The car squeaks (brakes) but doesn't make the noises my roof was last night!

Lesson 31 The UK has just opened a biomass electric generator in Scotland for a cost of £90 million. It is a good idea and at least we can plant more tree's! I love the fact they call it a biomass generator and not a wood burning generator which sounds much less glamorous.

 Stockport is more of a burgalry hotspot than Manchester, coming 4th (Manchester was 6th) in an insurance firm's study!

The article is here.
