Gate Crashers

Post by Mike »

The BBC might be sued after a shout out on Radio One prompted hundreds of people to gatecrash an 18th party! They apparently caused thousands of pounds worth of damage. Personally I don't know how Radio One can be found guilty of the event sufficiently enough to be sued, unless of course they said - wow, its Sarah's birthday go down and trash that house!

That might have more to do with it than the Radio One shout out. I think they are simply getting cross with someone they can sue - not the person responsible - ie their 18 year old child

Yahoo! have finally picked up on this one too. BBC spokesperson has said that they do not release the name or address of parties so (basically) they can not be liable for the damage.

The Mum has been on record as saying that "of course it was easy to find... we live in the only mansion in the village"! my heart bleeds! We regularly used to have parties for 100 or more with no harm done.
i liked that the police were called and chased the gate crashers off using dogs! Leave now or I'll release the hounds! Excellent!

As Phil's basically said, it's not so much the number of people that are there, it's the type of people that turn up. Sounds like a load of people went there with the intent of doing whatever the hell they felt like, including damaging other people's property. Don't know why the bouncers couldn't just, like, lock the doors or something inventive like that.

I think I speak for the majority of us here when I say this little remark.

If I had done that, I would have had my arse kicked. With a numbed backside my parents would then have either chucked me out OR shoved me off to the nearest job centre to find a job that has long hours so that I could quickly repay the damage.

They would not have had the cheek to blame Radio 1. They would have been too embarassed and hoped that the media attention would die down. What sort of message is that sending to their daughter? Not the right one. More like, trash the house and get the damage repayed by someone else because it is easy to claim.

Totally agree with Andy, a stunt like that would not have resulted in my folks crying 'no fair' to the media.

In one article I read, they managed to get the name of the 'mansion', the name of the village and the fact that it is a popular venue for weddings. Nice bit of advertising that!
