Don't say that, most beemer drivers are big enough muppets already, if they think they're saving the world as well we'll never hear the end of it!Fez wrote:save the planet; buy a beemer1

Re: In the News
Crooks are stealing cast iron road covers and selling them for scrap. To be honest, since the covers are £200 to replace they might as well just give the crooks £50 and save everyone a lot of effort going to taking them up, melting them down, re-casting them (probably as cast iron road covers) and then re-installing. Thought to be honest this is almost like Milo's Consortium in Catch 22. ie. Selling eggs to himself to drive up the prices then selling them to someone else at what appears to be a loss. . . .

Re: In the News
Bad news Phil, wearing flip-flops is bad for the feet.
Apparently 'casual' flip-flop use is fine, but if it becomes a habit then it is a slippery downhill slop towards sole, heel and ankle problems...which we all know leads to loss of self-esteem and self-worth; ultimately leading to depression then to drink and drug dependancy and finally homelessness. You have been warned!

North Carolina is offering to replace 10,000 'WTF' license plates to reduce offense! All I can say is WTF?!
Jodrell Bank is under threat due to the lack of cash. I am surprised by this one, I thought it would have been a kudos for the University and they would be keen to keep it open. I wonder what it would be used for if it did close to astronomers.

Re: In the News
There's a BBC article here about Jodrell Bank from the 19th June. This seemed to suggest that there may be some hope for a planned upgrade to the dish and facilities...maybe this hinges on the Uni's cash?

It pretty much matches up with everything else I see on the subject: people go for averages more than they do extremes.
Au contraire, Mike: I think they asked the right women! For all we know they could all be ugly, so I wonder if they controlled for that? Definitely needs a larger sample size than 76, plus culture is a major factor (as pointed out at the end).

Cnet are reporting that Mr Dell has purchased $100 million in shares. That is his biggest purchase and he must be confident that the company is going up and doing amazingly well!

Re: In the News
Manchester Central Library, Town Hall and Town Hall Extension three of Manchester's most visible public buildings require £150 million pounds to secure their future and prevent further decay of the buildings.
One thing I did not know is that the Central Library is riddled with Asbestos! How odd, John S better get in there quick to make sure he gets the testing sorted out!

[url=Manchester Evening News[/url] had an interesting article about Tatton Park, the best part is that I found out that Manchester Airport used to be and RAF based called Ringway. I never knew that!

Shell is finally investing in physcial sustainable energy generation on a very large scale by investing $100 billion yen in a 1 gigawatt power solar generation plant in Japan. Cool! The technology has now obviously caught up with intention.
