BBC are reporting on a fat pill that is supposed to give you all the benefits of light exercise without moving a muscle. It also says that 30 minutes of light exercise is required five days a week ie something that makes you slightly out of breath from either brisk walking or gardening (or bush wrestling - that sounds slightly wrong!) or 60-90 minutes of actual full on exercise to maintain weight loss. Damn, that means I should go running every day to maintain my slim figure. I really need to get up early to try that one out.

The ocean is the final frontier. I'm becoming increasingly fascinated by ocean science, more people have walked on the moon than have actually seen the deep ocean with their own eyes! Its also interesting that the vast majority of research is either surface water or ocean floor. We have NO IDEA what goes on in the pelagic zone because all research equipment is just dropped straight thru with its lights and cameras off to conserve energy. Everytime they are persuaded to leave the lights and cameras on during decent about 10 new species are discovered!

I'm very pleased for him, he's a nice bloke (if a bit grumpy, but as I've said before- I think that's a vital aspect of a good sportsman's psyche). Jamie is a lovely guy, but not nearly so driven. Weird to think I've played doubles against them . We got beaten, and beaten BADLY! but it was fun (despite the fact that they were about 11 and 13- My partner and I were 18 and 27!)

Tis cool that you have played tennis with the world number 6 though! Murray is actually becoming the big British Tennis name at the moment. Henman was there for a while but never really managed to make it into the wow zone. It is strange that we Brits always judge a player by their ability to win Wimbledon. Is that because it is the most coveted and hard fought tennis cup in the world or are we just nostalgic?

I dunno really, there are certain events in all sports which seem to have a mystique.
Wimbledon in tennis
FA Cup in football
The Open in golf

The funny thing is that all these events are held in the UK. I think it is to do with traditions in the respective sports, and its events which athletes grow up dreaming of winning. Every kid who has ever held a tennis racquet must have dreamed of winning wimbledon etc. I'm sure for americans its world series, superbowl, world pie eating championships etc... but they ALWAYS talk about the history of Wimbledon etc and wanting their names to go down in the historic lists which can be traced back to their heroes. There is a feeling that a player can't be TRULY a great until they have won atleast one of these events. (Federer has never won the french, but it doesn't seem to affect his status- Ivan Lendl has long been considered to be the best never to win wimbledon).
For most sports the Olympics is the pinnacle of achievement, but not tennis, football (and certain others)- which is why I think that the olympics should drop sports where its not the premier event... but thats another debate.

Go on then, who was the last Brit to win a SENIOR GrandSlam title? Nice and easy.
