Re: Things Learned Today!
How did you manage that one?!
Just proves the point that exercise = pain in unequal proportions!

Re: Things Learned Today!
No exercise involved. Sat watching TV with Bex leaning on my shoulder... reached for the remote... LOTS of pain for 2days!
Its just a pulled muscle and I'm back at work now, I just have to be left handed for a day or so until I get full movement back.

Re: Things Learned Today!
That sounds similar to when my dad picked up the family cat and pulled a muscle in his back!
I thought it was very funny when I came back from school (I was a cruel child!)

Re: Things Learned Today!
I would guess this next one is probably a lesson taught today but I thought I would post it anyway. I learned (taught) how to calculate Holiday entitlement.
20 days annual holiday. Accrued in advance each calendar month (on the first working day) at the rate of 1/12 of the annual allocation per month.
3 months = 3/12 allocation accrued (or using our primary school maths) 1/4.
20/4 = 5 (slightly more advanced step but I am going to credit the forum with lots of intelligence)
I would stress that the answer is not 3 (like some people calculated).

Re: Things Learned Today!
I've learned that there's been a screw up on the MMU Clearing documents... MY phone number has been printed (1140) instead of the clearing admin no... 1440! So my phone is ringing off the hook.
They now know the mistake.. but its in the letters sent to students!
I think I may turn my phone off.

Can't you do 'Send All Calls' to a specific extension?

Nope, mine's just a basic handset. Andrew has that function on his phone, but that doesn't help me. Anyway, diverting all my calls would send all my REAL calls to clearing.
I'm off for an eye test soon anyway so I've turned the ringer off in the meantime.

Re: Things Learned Today!
I got it fixed.
It turned out that it wasn't the actual clearing line, it was one of the lines to refer students to the administrator for the biology section of the team. Once I'd pointed out the error they temporarily diverted my number onto clearing at the switchboard.
Noone should miss out on a place- the only reason for speaking to the admin was to sort out details after acceptance, so no harm done.
i also learned that my eyesight is OK- -0.5 in each eye is not too bad. My last prescription was -0.25 ish. I could get new specs, but its not urgent.

Re: Things Learned Today!
That is a relief, I was starting to feel quite sorry for the people trying to get through clearing! -0.5 is not too bad for short sighted ness, I think I am currently -9.25 and -10.25! Yes that is pretty short sighted. You sort of get used to the world being blurred in the morning

Why bother going to all that trouble? Just ask the nearest scally...they'll do it in no time at all!

I learnt how to change a tyre today...yay for me!
Or not as I now need a new spare tyre and someone to decide whether the wheel is ok as the rim has...er...a teeny, tiny dent in it!
Flaming potholes!

Re: Things Learned Today!
I learned today that a simple typo can have a BIG effect.
I applied for a job at leeds uni a month or so ago... or so I thought.
I emailed the application to the address at Leeds which I "Ctrl+v"ed from the jobs website. Which was wrong!
It was missing a letter. I emailed for feedback and noticed that the address on there seemed to be different now.
So they never got my application, I never got an interview let alone a job. They're very sorry, but the person I emailed thinks the job has been filled.
Don't feel too bothered tho. (I didn't REALLY want the job and am 90% certain I wouldn't have taken it if offered. A drive to leeds and back daily would have killed me. I thought it'd be good experience to go for an interview).
Atleast I know that it wasn't something I missed on the application.
On to the next one!
