Not meaning to go all political etc... but is anyone else worried by Sarah Palin being chosen as McCains VP?
A creationist, gun loving, anti abortionist, who supports Arctic drilling and opposes every environmental plan she's faced with! She currently offers a $150 bounty on every wolf foreleg brought by hunters! HOLY CRAP!
Bring back George.W. Bush?!? You gotta hope Obama wins!
I saw that too...guess it means we've both got some kind of schizophrenia going on as I like Blues and Metal/Rock whatever too!
Or of course it could just be yet another report written to keep the academic in question away from real work! See 'Why do penguins on the Falkland Islands fall over when the Royal Navy fly helicopters over them?' for further evidence of reports to reports sake!
Nothing says "romance" like a kidnapped injured woman!
She just sounds very nieve and highly unsuitable, she's got five kids - how on earth has she had the time to get the appropriate experience? It is highly annoying when a capable woman is voted out and then replaced (albeit for the other side) with someone who is merely a figurehead! There are plenty of capable women out there, women don't need to be given jobs just because we look good, ta muchly!
After an interesting week for sports fans I feel the need to post about it.
Murray wins in the US Open semi- attempting to be the first brit to win a major since 1936!
England win... but only just
Hamilton wins... and then doesn't!
Khan definitely doesn't win.
neither do Scotland, Ireland, Wales, or France (against Austria!).
Keegan is leaving Newcastle, then isn't, then does.
Curbishley resigns at West ham... currently 5th and having scored 8 goals in their last 2games.
City get bought by Arabs and then buy Robinho, despite him thinking they're Chelski.
United get Berbatov, despite Citys best efforts.
Rumour has it that Mike Ashley and Dennis Wise have gone into hiding following the events of the dismissal of Kevin 'The Messiah' Keegan. They are apparently in a very secure place in the middle of Newcastle which hasn't been opened for years - the trophy room.
"A word to the wise ain't necessary -- it's the stupid ones that need the advice." Bill Cosby
Ha that reminds me of when the trophy room at City was broken into. The theives stole everything of value... Police are still looking for 4 men with a large blue carpet.
Eagles may soar high, but Weasels don't get sucked into jet engines.
More sports news... Lance Armstrong is coming out of retirement to try to win an 8th Tour de France, at the ripe old age (for an athlete) of 37!
I hope he manages it- he's one of my favourite sportsmen.
p
Gotta love the underdog. I think if anyone can do it he will be able too. Did you ever see him in Dodge Ball? At one point Vince Vaughn is about to give up and he happens to see him at the airport. Armstrong gives him this pep talk (paraphrased)
Armstrong wrote:I survived cancer and came back to win the tour de France x times. What are you dieing of?
Okay so it is meant to highlight a comic moment in the film is is fairly flippant about something which is actually very impressive but it is a laugh out loud funny moment.
This drives me crazy. Creationism should (and currently IS) taught as a religious belief. To change this is insane! Do they also have to teach about the garden of eden in history? About feeding 5000 with a slice of bread and a fish finger in home economy?
Believe what you want. (My views are fairly obvious, but) I'm not against religion itself- its just not for me, although I do think that science itself could be considered to be a type of religion.
Even scarier, the BBC article states that 1 in 10 children are from a family that supports creationist views. It would set a dangerous precedent to teach it alongside science, even if only for comparative purposes. I understand his point about potentially alienating some kids from science, but if it's handled sensitively by the teachers it should be fine: no way should it get anywhere near a science curriculum (except for the "what to do if your class ask about..." section).
At least science is willing to accept a change to paradigms if evidence is produced: creationism is complete dogma. That's the key difference between more abstract science (like string theory) and religious beliefs.
Lehman Brothers has gone into administration. This is the third of the five largest US Banks to go under or be bought out. Two reasons to mention it. Firstly it is another shock to the financial markets around the world and second I took a picture of their NY headquarters which is linked to below!
I thought I recognised it as soon as you mentioned we'd seen it! Nice building, nice photo, that article raised an eyebrow with me when I read it at work this morning: it's a shame the staff only got one hour's notice, but they must've been thinking it could happen. Looks like they've let Lehman go because they deemed its business model shite, but Merrill Lynch has been propped up to avoid panic and because it's salvageable.
They were also talking about AIG (insurance) being in trouble. Interesting times ahead...
