Almost as mind-boggling as a certain gentleman involved with RBS's pension... £650,000 a year isn't bad.

I learned lots of things its illegal or legal to do around the world from this article. Does anyone know any pregnant women who could invoke No.17 next time they see a policeman!
Number 14 sounds harsh! Do they have ANY teenagers left in the country?

The comments are good too. Though I guess alot of these laws have run their time now and are no longer active!

Re: In the News
More Stem Cell breakthroughs that have pushed the research forward to the point where embryos are no longer needed. Pro-life campaigners are very pleased with this as you can imagine. What the scientists have done is turn back the time on adult cells to their embryonic state. I wonder if this is the start of the fountain of youth. The rich will be able to 'turn back time' on thier body cells in an attempt to live longer.
It does smell suspiciously like the film The Reapoman where you rent organs from a company and have long life. That is, as long as you keep up with the repayments. If you don't they send the Reapoman over to 'reclaim' their property. The reclaimed property is usually a very necessary body part.

Re: In the News
Looks like a large part of the breakthrough was not having to inject cancer-causing viruses to do it (!). This could be quite the major find, on both the morally-acceptable and potential use levels.
Reapoman sounds freaky. I'd rather buy my organs outright, thanks! You'd have a credit crunch and no-one would have livers or hearts... messy.

Pizza Reviews by the Guardian. Pizza Express gets
and many get 0 or 1s ratings! Shocking. I think they may have gone to a particularly bad Pizza Express to get that review, especially since it smelled like an unclean oven!

Man fitted with a Bionic eye. This is a cool article. A blind man has been fitted with a system that will allow him to see the white lines in the middle of the road and to be able to sort socks! The scientists hope that the patients will be able to learn how to interpret meaningful images from the signals. I hope that is the case because it could be very useful for people with ruined eyesight.

Guardian report about a new search engine that acutally understands the question and computates the response. It will launch in May 2009 for those who are interested and it is called Wolfram Alpha.

Re: In the News
speed limit to fall from 60mph to 50.
what do you think?
I'm not sure I'm in favour. As someone who spends a considerable amount of time on rural A roads I think that people try to drive at the speed which is appropriate to the conditions; long straight and clear the 60ish isn't a problem. Whereas there are many places where 60 would be suicidal and you must drive accordingly.
More of an issue to me is those who drive at 40 all the time and are impossible to pass, thats where there is a danger of someone being impatient and causing an accident. Maybe introducing passing places for slower drivers to allow those who wish to go more quickly to pass safely and not to risk a head-on collision would help resolve the issue.

Re: In the News
I'm with you on this one Phil. I drove roughly 40 miles a day on mainly rural roads for almost 3 years when I worked at JCB. How many accidents did I see on the back roads? One. Admitedly, the guy had plowed out of control through a hedge and ended up in a field, but when compared to my journey to work now where I see about 4 or 5 accidents a week on the motorways it is a pretty good figure!

Re: In the News
I think that we should stick at 60mph. The driving to suit conditions is very important though. I have seen nutters on the motorway speeding at 90 in storm conditions when visibility was zero!

Re: In the News
Definitely agree with the statements that people should just drive at a speed appropriate to the conditions. That alone would eliminate a lot of issues.
Unfortunately there are still plenty of ways to drive dangerously within 50mph, and speed cameras don't deal with this.

Self Healing materials! The scrates heal when exposed to sunlight. A self healing car shell would be great. Imagine a world where you don't have to worry about a person keying your car. Well, in hindsight, I don't worry about that anyway but nevermind. ![Geek []](./images/smilies/icon_e_geek.gif)
