Bourne Identity
Bourne Identity
this is a fantastic film that makes mission impossible and james bond seem very silly and predictable by comparison (possibly because they are anyway). a spy film with a genuine sense of danger without a dodgey array of special gadgets anywhere to be seen, it also has (shock) a storyline that not only makes sense but doesn't reveal itself within the first ten minutes of the opening credits. matt damon is superb as is most of the rest of the cast (watch out for clive owen as an opposing hitman), and the ending is rewarding and welldone.
i loved it.

It was good - however, like Bond and the MI films, it was fairly OTT in places although admittedly not too much. I'll admit that it wasn't as predictable as Bond and MI but it still followed the same basic format.
Matt Damon has never been one of my favourite actors but that doesn't really detract from the film for me. I thought he was good in this one.

Not only is this a brilliant film but, as usual, the book is even better. The film itself probabloy covers about a third of the storyline that the book goes into. The follow up books (The Bourne Supremacy and The Bourne Ultimatum) are equally good. Also, unusually for a film, Matt Damon is exactly the right actor to play the part of Bourne as described in the books. It's really disapointing when you read a book and get a picture in your head of the characters in it, only to find that the filmmakers have got completely the wrong actors to then take on the parts. A prime example being an earlier 1980's version of the Bourne Identity which had Richard Chamberlain playing the lead role (????).
