Count me in as well - we have stopped it at school which is a shame because the Year 11 are too scared to play with us.

With regards to the gym being ''a drone'', it depends on the way you look at it. I much prefer playing sport but I hate the competition of being in a league - I thought I had developed a liking for it but after four losses I became the scapegoat because I missed one tackle at 1-5 down. Then it became not fun and I told then where to shove it. With the gym I am bothered about my own wellbeing and have a regular exercise regime, I am also starting to get to know a few people there which is good because it means I am not totally blinkered throughout my training session.

I'll quite happily participate in group sports that aren't overly competitive. Anyone fancy walking up Snowdon or something this year?

That would be good fun even though I know that one of us will attempt a mini-sprint near the end just to say they got to the top!

BTW, is it possible? Is it safe? Do you need certain gear?

There's a path all the way up, and a train as well, if I remember conversations with Mike correctly. There probably is an approach that requires proper climbing and gear, but I'm sure as hell not taking that just yet. Gear's probably standard hill-walking stuff, which I still need to buy, as I found out today when my left foot got soaked from the sole upwards. Mental note: leaky soles are bad, even if the shoes are eight years old.

We could all walk up Snowdon, it always gets me on the way down though. I end up with a massive blister or a sore leg as I try to stop myself running down the path.

Just had a quick check around, it would appear that there are quite a few routes up, but I'll be taking the tourist path for sure.

On a more regular basis, might it be possible for us to play doubles of...something? Social and it doesn't require too many people.

two maybe three years ago i went up snowdon with my parents, brother and family dog via the tourist route. there are a few hairy places near the top where the path has a thirty foot drop off to one side and no fence, the path is slate-chip and can be tricky if you don't mind your step, but walking boots would be a good idea rather than essential - i did it in trainers, but it was a glorious summer's day at the time. the trains don't run all year round, it closes for several months over autumn/winter/spring for maintainance. it would be good to go again, plus the bala lake railway is just round the corner and has an extensive slate museum.

I would recommend walking boots on Snowdon. It does get very steep at the top and when it rains it can be really, really miserable, slippery and dangerous. If you can guarantee the weather for a long period of time stout trainers would be okay at a push. I suppose that, on the flip side of the coin, it could be very hard work on hot summers days, especially on the old water consumption. :D

I too would recommend propper walking gear- mainly because I believe the scare tatics mountain rescue use and the masses of signs all the way up Snowdon warning people not to attempt the climb without the proper equipment.

I think the main problem would be if the weather turned nasty - which given that it is in North Wales is pretty likely !!

Count me in John. I've not been up Snowdon, but have the kit, so I may as well use it. I may need to increase my fitness levels before though, wouldn't want to need to get rescued by the Mountain Rescue, that would be embarrassing!

Woody and Tony were the last people I know to need airlift rescue from the side of Snowdon. It must have been pretty embarrassing for them.
