The Sovereign Stone Trilogy

Post by mr_e »

Hooray! I've finally found the name of that book that has dwarves riding ponies, sailing orcs, and warlike elves. It's
Well of Darkness (from the Sovereign Stone Trilogy)
, by Margaret Weis and Tracy Hickman.

The question from me: is this trilogy good enough to warrant me buying the books, or (even better), borrowing them off some kind, fantasy-reading people? They seem pretty well-known authors, but that's not always a guarantee of quality.

Took me a while to find: to give you some idea, I ended up googling for book review trilogy "dwarves ride" to find the damn thing.

putting 'dwarves ride' into a search engine could have been very dangerous and embarassing...

I have read that series. They are average but not literary greats. I suppose it would be good to read if you had a spare few hours!

Those search terms could have been fun, indeed. I didn't dare do an image search, though.

Thanks for the info, Mike. I remember reading just the first one and quite enjoying it, but I don't have time to read mediocre books (I have a small pile to read already), and Ive heard the other two books in the trilogy don't really live up to the first. Ho hum.

Did you manage to find this trilogy in the shops? What do you think now?

To give you some idea, I have seven books in the queue ahead of me to read that I already own before I even considering buying it, and I read about a book a month at most (shameful, I know). So, er...ask me in July or so.

Only one book a month! You are talking to the man who spent about 18 months reading war and peace. I don't think that I have much of a leg to stand on in the critique department.

I read less than one book a month. I am trying harder, but I work a lot , have toddler and am packing up to move house. So best I can manage is to squeeze a few pages in before i fall asleep.

I am curently half way through The Lord OfThe Rings for the third time. It is the first time I have read it since the films came out. It's quiet interesting to see bits of text they have directly lifted out of the book and moved around in the films.

It is also good to see which parts of the book they forget about completely. I think the third book and the third film suffer from the same problem. They go on and on with several endings!

I bet my sister has my Lord Of The Rings books. I wonder if she was brave enough to read the Silmarillion (Middle Earth history-tastic). That was a harsh read, at least to about page twenty, where I never ventured beyond. Anyone read it?

I started to read it too but became so bored I gave up. I think there are only about 4 books ever to have inspired such boredom. . . . .

I started reading it as well. I'm beginning to sense a theme here!
