4 UK Universities in world top 10!

Post by Mike »

Oxford and Cambridge are joint second with the Imperial College and University College London also up there! The other six were US universities but I would not say the top ten were dominated by the US like the article suggested.

Bolton was a nearly into the top 2000. . . . . . according to this website.

Manchester was 356 (beaten by the open university at 310! Shocking! Man Met at 619 - lucky I applied to Manchester University aint it otherwise I would have been eating humble pies!)
Leicester at 405.
De Montford missed out in a top 500 place by 1 point at 501.
Bolton trails home last at 2258

According to the website above Cambridge and Oxford are 21 and 40 (not joint second as in todays released news!)

Makes me wonder how on earth they categorise the universities if they're getting such variable rankings. Lies, damned lies and...

I think it depends on the ranking system - the first was a google search and the second was the times.

Well, The Times' rankings are obviously superior in that case (not at all because Manchester's higher, of course). The problem with variable results like that is that papers can pick and choose which ones to use to suit their own agendas.
