Newcastle or Newcastle?

Post by Mike »

UK Government Officials do not know the difference between Newcastle and Newcastle! Yahoo! are reporting that Newcastle Under Lyme received £1.1 million pounds of grants this year that should have gone to Newcastle Upon Tyne!

This really fills me with confidence about the usefulness of our government and the way that they are able to manage the country. They don't actually know where the devil anywhere is!

I would like to stress that I do know the difference between the two, and not everyone in government employment is crazy. Still, looks like Newcastle-Under-Lyme will be the place to visit in a few years time. It'll be interesting to see if central government try to get the money back, because it looks like they're not going to give it back.

The whole story rather makes me chuckle. I wonder what the increased revenue will have done to house prices in that area.....

I love the fact that the council said - No you can't have it back, we have committed the money! I suppose that is fair and proper, if they have signed contracts for the work then it really is fully committed and non refundable!
