They WERE never good. They NEVER WILL be good. At best they were just another carbon-copy corporate created boyband designed to rack in the cash from young girls who thought they loved them - oh please why?hazel wrote:take that were fab!you lads just got no sense!
The best thing they did was to stop - and they haven't even done that it seems - did you know that ultimate collection" is faceless corporation speak for "how much money will these people fork out for stuff they probably bought years ago anyway?"
A dying franchise takes a last swipe at popularity. They deserve some pity I suppose.
I know you'll hate me for this, but it has to be said.
In my defense- unfortunately, in the good old days of the early ninetees - cd's were not the main format of music and all of my tt music was on tape and has since therefore died a death.
Felt the need to relive the days of being 16 and totally in love with all things take that- and actually being really gutted when the split (I am ashamed to say that I think there were some tears when the band split). Hence, the purchase of the tape. Plus being able to remember all the words to every take that song, and memories of Smash Hits Take That posters on every conceivable space in my bedroom was a contributing factor to my purchase.
On reflection- although the music is great (in my opinion) it is a bit too succesful in helping me relive my youth. I had forgotten how depressing and rubbish being 16 is !!
I think Mike will be glad to hear - I will thusly keep take that useage to a minimum, and stick to the far healthier sound of Robbie Williams !!
Out of interest- did anyone else feel totally gutted again about the take that splt when they watched the documentary ??
Oh my goodness- I don't think I've ever written so much in a post. Which confirms my suspision that my unhealthy obsession with TT never went away, it merely went into retirement !! Tell me I am not the only one who feels the same about bands they liked as a teenager 10 years on!!

Yep. It was. All that crap about High School being the best years of your life is utter crap. I blame Grease. The best years of my life were College. Then, they were Uni. Now, the best years are my current ones. Why? I have more freedom and more money.Lizzie wrote:On reflection- although the music is great (in my opinion) it is a bit too succesful in helping me relive my youth. Nope. Never. I can remember the day though. Kyra Simpson walked into French on the last period and told everyone. She then cried. Her friends cried. We (all the boys) cheered. I do, in a slight way, like their music now. At Uni, in the club on a Wednesday night they always used to play a few songs of theirs and they were decent enough to listen to.Lizzie wrote: Out of interest- did anyone else feel totally gutted again about the take that splt when they watched the documentary ??
I was also glad to notice that Howard had lost his ridiculous facial hair. Presumably because he was sick of the line 'Here's Gary, Robbie, Jason, Mark and thingummy ......oh! the one with the beard ..... the short one, you know...... that's it, Herbert ... No! .... Howard.'
Okay. I'm prepared to get ripped over this one - Belinda Carlisle from Bananarama was IMHO ...... HOT!!!! Hated the music, loved the dancing.Lizzie wrote:Tell me I am not the only one who feels the same about bands they liked as a teenager 10 years on!!
Also, Geri Helliwell in that red dress and the BRIT awards was just about the nearest thing you can get to the ultimate teenage fantasy. In her union jack dress she wasn't bad either. But then again, I was 15. But then again, she was definitely fit. Baby spice was nice - still is. Still would.

I don't want to sound like I'm being picky Andy, but I think Belinda Carlisle was in The Go-Go's (American girl band) not Bananarama (English girl band) and then she went on to have a solo career (sort of).
Don't worry about your Take That problem Lizzie. I'm sure everyone will find that if they cast their minds back far enough, they really liked some group/singer who they now try desperately to deny ever being interested in. That probably even includes TAOWBST. For my part, growing up as a teenager in the 80's, just imagine some of the dodgy acts I coud have been in to. And you'll have to imagine them 'cause I'm saying nothing else without my solicitor being present.

Fair enough Mark - I thought she was in banarama but I'll take your word. Anyway, she was fit, I wasn't bothered about the music!
mr_e, I also bought a Radiohead album and I too feel like committing suicide after it. I want to smash everything and anything that I see. They are pure garbage! However, my first album that I bought was ''Queen Greatest Hits 1 and 2''. It was the only thing that I ever thanked my dad for during my teenage years! After that, it was ''Meatloaf - Bat out of Hell'', utter class. I can still remember buying them as well, and singing them *sigh.

i don't know about the first album but i can remember quite vividly the first time i heard metallica - from the very first notes of sad but true i was hooked forever more to drift in a world of thundering riffs and double kick drums. it still brings a fond tear to my eye when i hear words:
"hate (hate) i'm your hate, i'm your hate when you want love,
pay (pay) the price, pay for nothings fair"
ah memories. now, where were you when pantera released "yesterday don't mean shit"? catchy title, one of dimebag's best moments (r.i.p dude)

I came, I saw, I bought the T-shirt
I agree - Bananrama were great looking. Crap singers but great looking. I am glad I am not alone here!Mark Scollon wrote:She certainly was. As were Bananarama, with the added bonus that there were 3 of them to choose from.
Fez, I can remember your first album and I know that you can too - 2unlimited -
''no no, no no no no, no no no no, no no theres no limits
no valley to deep, no mountain to high''
theres no limits so lets reach for the sky''
or something to that effect. Absolute quality when it came out! I can still remember the dance moves.
