Lemony Snickets A Series of Unfortunate Events

Post by Mike »

This is a really wierd film. It is a surreal childrens film which stars Jim Carrey. Obviously it documents a series of unfortunate events relating to the Bordecia children. The imagry is good and eccentric in the extreme. Well worth a watch if you have a spare 1hr 30mins.

I loved this film, I thought Carrey was excellent - usually I find him way over the top and full of self-importance. However, in this instance his style suited the plot.

I have read some of the books as well and they are entertaining but the author's style lacks a great deal. The sequel is rumoured to be based wholly on the fifth book which I think is a good idea.

Overall, I liked the film for its unusually style and the fact that it decides to reveal only certain details to the audience, thereby keeping them in suspense. I also thought that the way they recreated the scenery was exactly how the author would have imagined it.

Sorry but with the author's writing style of mentioning that every other sentence, and something like 14 books you don't soon forget it lol.

That was the bit that really pissed me off about the entire series and the reason I stopped reading them to be honest. He was too sodding repetitive. In all honesty, the film did a good job because there wasn't much to really go on from the first three books.

This was indeed a film that.....for once......did the books justice. In fact in this case probably improved on the books in some respects. The snake attack scene is excellent.
