Mission Impossible III

Post by Andy »

Tom Cruise returns as Special Agent Ethan Hunt who faces yet another death-defying mission.

The storyline has its usual couple of twists but if it wasn't for the action scenes then this movie would not be worth bothering about. It is completely unbelievable in places but you know that before you are going. Also, it is nothing like the original T.V. series but you know that before you are going. I was sceptical about going to this film because I really wasn't that keen on MI:2 but I went because I was curious - new director, couple of decent actors, etc. In the end, I realised I wanted a classic high-octane shoot-em up killer between the goodies and the baddies and I wasn't disappointed.

I think overall my favourite character was Hunt's new helper Bunji played by Simon Pegg. He was actually a very good actor in this and his role was like Q only much more insecure and much funnier. I didn't find Cruise as annoying as I did in MI:2 / most roles he has done.

In all honesty, if they had swopped Hunt for Bond I would probably have not noticed the difference. Overall, a good action movie with tonnes of special effects. If that's what you wanted, like I ultimately did then you won't be disappointed.

I was always disapointed with the MI films. I don't know what it is about Tom Cruise that makes his films such dross!

I may go an see this film but it is more likely that I won't I am afraid. Good point about the hunt / bond swap though.

I think the reason you are disappointed is similar to my thinking : It is nowhere near as good as the T.V. series.

It is true that the T.V. series was unbelievable but they did it in such a way that made it slightly believeable. I think it was because there was no big budget movie star and no big budget special effects made it what it was, absolute class. I used to love watching old repeats of it on a Sunday morning.

I went to see this film tonight. I thought that it was interesting. There seemed to be several small heist moments rather than a grand finale break in mission.

I thought that there were some weird moments, like near the CPR moment at the end. . . .

All together I think that I would agree with Andys assessment

With the following proviso. Watch this film at the cinema, I suspect that the grand drama would not be worth it on the small screen. My rating is more to do with the extreem drama of the whole film rather than the story / plot or lack thereof.
